Understanding emotions both self
and of others is the gateway to deal with stress.

This magnanimous thought to heal
the world & self from stress led me to read about emotions. To my utmost surprise,
there are emotions beyond SAD, MAD, GLAD and BAD. The jury is still out on a
final number be it basic, core, discrete or positive. Often quoted numbers are
4,12, 13, 27 and a few multiples here and there. Its quite possible that the
number varies by language, gender, age and so on.

Emotions, moods and feelings are
different yet connected. “Feelings” are the most seen tags on social media. Extensive
research has indicated that humans are capable of 34,000 unique feelings. Whether
this research was gender specific is unknown.

Humbled by our emotional prowess,
I continued my mission to alleviate stress. There are 3 research samples in my “locked
down” home. I excluded the minors to avoid any run-in’s with the law. That
reduced sample size to a delicate number 1.

Emotional labeling or
identifying and expressing with words is a powerful skill towards alleviating
or amplifying them. I approach subject 1, armed with a vocabulary of emotions
and a few pictures of colorful spirals spinning from basic to advanced emotions.

Subject 1 is a person of few
words. So his responses to all my research attempts came in pictures. Pictures in
all shapes, sizes and colors. Unlike emotions that evolve over a long period of
time within the limbic system in our brain, these pictures can be instantly
created by just about anybody. So as usual subject 1 throws me off balance.

While emotional labeling is a
proven concept to deal with the same mindfully, these pictures or emojis cause
more turmoil. There are no limitations on quantity, appropriateness, intent,
interpretations or misinterpretations. The website https://emojipedia.org/ tries to bring in
some uniformity and even has a few to be adopted.

Emojis bring in a rich vocabulary
but has wide gaps between intent and interpretation.

While my intent is to alleviate world stress, dealing with emoji's shatters peace.

I express this feeling on social media
and subject 1 replies with an emoji.😇.

While in school ( yes, that was couple of decades back), population increase was India's bane and a problem that needed to be sorted.

By the time I started working t<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">hat changed into a " Demographic Advantage" and power points or India advantage reports are peppered with terms like young India, increasing labor wealth etc.

I was quick to change to the positive outlook too and prided myself of being a " just in border line millennial ". You know the generation which everybody else is struggling to comprehend and companies are researching on how to handle the VUCA's at work.

All that changed last week when I went shopping and even after adding a couple of thousand steps to the Fitbit tracker by walking down the mall aisles, my shopping bag was largely empty. The perfect top, shirt, dress was still elusive. Of course I did increasing my bandwidth but still, nothing.

We are not even talking about sizes, or the yards of cloth required to cover multiple bulges, but just the styling.

And then it stuck me, though I may feel that I have a right to be part of the millennial generation, the fashion designers don't think so. The styling is not for wannabe millennials but the real ones...

Imagine that... there are brands upon brands and so much choice, but nothing that suits my sensibilities. Well Castaway it is...

India's median age currently is 27 and its growing younger by the minute. Her population is 17% of the World's, and 50% of that is below 27.

Now here is a blue ocean market for the brands and the designers. Who is going to be bothered about the millennials approaching mid life crisis... A red ocean of tried and tested people, with size expectations that eliminate designer effects..

Hmmm...my patriotic pride of India's labor advantage is fast greying :(

A couple of years ago while listening to the concept of helicopter parenting and colleagues going on leave for their children's exams, I used to laugh about it and made a silent pact that I wont turn into one...

Well I did keep my promise.. I am not a helicopter parent.. but evolved into an advanced Mamma Drone.
<strike></strike><strike></strike>
All my daughter's activities, schedules , routines are either under self drone or delegated to other drones and this could be nannies, friendly neighbors, other mommies and of course there is the ever resourceful WhatsApp groups's segregated by school, class, games, cultural, society and so on.

Its on 24X7, offline or online. Does not matter and has an expandable processing capability. If the information feeders go silent, then it goes into an auto hyper ventilating mode.

Apart from all the sheer phone memory space for all these WhatsApp groups, there is the mental overload of processing information , big data analytics and feeding it into the internal wiring of the Drone. And of course a high level of social quotient required to know all her friends, her friends parents, prospective maids, prospective special classes, tutors, and so on.

Recently her school has also started app based update of the day's activities both class work and home work and thereby my drone network has crossed the final frontier into the classroom thereby providing a 24 hour GPS mapping.

But what's the origin of this - is it the guilt of being the working mother to be participative or is it fear of the society evils ? is it being over protective ? or just the sheer inability to let go ?

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">By writing all this, I have no intention to change to cruise control or switch off. May be I will learn to control and zone off or wait till she drones me out or I get drained off, whichever is the earliest.
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">

Trust me, I want her to be independent, street smart , able to take decisions and a strong lady. May be that needs a drone free zone...
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">

Wait, the school App is buzzing... and Mama drone has work to do
They say shopping is therapeutic ...

That may be true, while out on the street, walking by windows with mannequins displaying all things lovely and inviting, getting into the shop and being surrounded by choices and being pampered and waited upon...

But what happens when it is online shopping, multitude of sites and shopping pages on FB.. displays and pics so enchanting, the comfort of shopping without literally moving your butt and easy online payments...

With just a click here and a prompt there its like falling into a wonderland, a sudden escape from reality. Its captivating and addictive.

So much like love, you don't know whether its worth it, if it would fit, be suitable or even if it would be there for you .. but still the rush of getting it , the ecstasy of receiving those couriers and the promise of confidence and elegance that the new stuff would bring is enough to plunge in deeper and harder...

Oh how I wish the whispers from big data analytics powered by these platforms prompting me about the filled cart, the new collections, flash sale or another variant of things that I already bought would be silenced...

Willpower is what I need and heartache is what I have...

A few years ago, the country was led by a leader , a man trusted and renown for his deep knowledge on economy. But he chose to keep quiet when un-viable economic models or GDP eroding subsidies where unleashed on the society... all for a few coalition ties and to keep the chair intact.

Then comes another leader who brandished the earlier one for being silent...a voracious speaker and a mass leader.

But when goons start imparting " justice", be it in the name of honour, God, food habits or even movie choices .. defying the ruling of the highest court of the country.. and get their way around.

This leader is silent, and his silence is loud.

The troubles of this silence is there to see. The mob has taken over, ordinary tax payers are cowered upon and industries be it multiplex or tanneries are forced shut.

The mob is uncontrollable, it does not question the logic and believes in martyrdom all in the name of a Sanskriti patriotism fed to it. The largest democratic country in the world is caught in its fury and is dancing to its whims. May be this is the real dance of democracy or its biggest test so far. May be a direction from the leader will help.

But the crowd puller is silent. No words. No mention. No punch dialogues. Just a deafening silence from the top.

I am lucky to be living now.

I see that 50% students are girls. I see young women rushing back home from work everyday. I see girls who are ready to take on life unfazed, steady and confident. I see women pursuing everything that they wish to do.

The Rio Olympic team from India has more than 50% women, part of the largest contingent ever. The picture of women scientists from ISRO celebrating their success is still in my mind. Women are there in every sphere, every circle and you cant wish them away.

Ofcourse there are many who may not agree and who are hesitant to accept their intelligence and self worth , I hope and pray the winds of change will clear their mind's fogginess.

The tipping point is over. We women have changed , we have stepped out to claim our right-full space, we shall celebrate our life as per our choice and there is no looking back.

The time for gender diversity is now

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">We may try to make our mark in all spheres.. and a wide diaspora
with 1/6th world population.. we are found everywhere, Except
one place..sports arenas.. what makes us
stay away ? why do we remain happy counting a handful of bronzes and
silvers..the ocassional gold… does it influence the spirit of sportsmanship or
teamspirit too ? Well… to many questions from the recent loss to Guam…

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Guam, a U.S territory but independently governed country
beat India in the recent FIFA quarterfinals… well can you believe that ..Guam
was placed 33 rankings below India and was on the way to get a clean sheet had
it not been for India captain Sunil Chhetri who made it 2-1 in the 93rd
minute.. so much for salvaging the national pride….

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">We have 7500 people for every 1 person in Guam.. with a
highly tilted sex ratio, it means that there are even more men to every male in
Guram…now let me not get into the statistics on demographics, age etc…. but
look at the sheer numbers.. are we saying that we cant create a football team
that would atleast win from a country ranked 33 places below us ? why is it
so.. is it our physical capability as a genre… is it lack of sportsmanship ..
is it our lifestyle ( sports is for sports people only)..is it our attitude (
cricket and cricket only)… what is the root cause of such a great divide in
sports…

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Though its nice to blame the sports authority of India ( do
they exist ?) , lack of funds and so on…. I think its more deep rooted than
that… It’s a mix of many reasons including attitude, lifestyle… may be it’s a collective
cultural memory… where a day is divided into time for praying, cooking,
working, eating, tv watching, sleeping.. where do sports or games fit it ? it
does not ..

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">So where does this loss take us… well we can berate about it
for sometime and soon forget… but its definitely put Guam on the international map. I for one
dint know such a place existed and may be many more people have noticed this
sleepy exotic island… surely Guam has found its place in the football and the
tourism circuit….

We the supposedly evolved and
greater genre of animals are supposed to have a mind and a will to do scale
greater heights… But how often do we really use our mind on a free
range..instead of being stifled by conditional thinking… how often we settle
into routines… comfortable in the predictability of set routines.. that any slight miss, stresses us out.. because then we are forced
to use our head…

I often think each day is a fresh
day, till the routines start. Then its not fresh anymore, its just like the
previous day and the day before .

So what is the predicament of predictability?
is it actually a stress buster because everything is as per plan and therefore
under control ? or is it a mindless routine which stresses you out because you
are always trying your best to stick to the routine ? or does sticking to predictability
rob you off the journey itself ?

We love it because we have things
under our control, we hate it because its cool to be original , we imagine we have
conquered it and yet we find comfort in
it.

Well, that is the predicament of
predictability.

These days I have been quite overwhelmed by social media.. I have been having an email ID for over 15 years now, slowly migrated to orkut then replaced it by facebook, followed by Linked In and more recently into Twitter.. more frequent on What's Up...

Well this is a profile of a social media skimmer I guess , just the basics and most trending or may I say outdated social media networks.

Social Media, Digital Marketing are some of the often used catch words in the marketing and brand space these days. So much so that even British tight lipped dictionaries have come to accept them and Like, Follow, Tweet, Googled have all become accepted and correct words in english.

Now that brings up some questions.. how well connected is Social Media ? how many people use it regularly, are truthful about it and have no issues being in the public media.

Recently I saw some statistics which mentioned that only 5% India own cars ? Now I am yet to believe this stats, considering the amount of traffic, but if that were true, then what could be the extend of social media - 2-3% at the max.. of which you have skimmers like me..and completely hooked technocrats... so what could be the reach of social media ?

Is social media more about sensationalism, trending, instant access than a long invested relationship building method...

It is indeed fast... and does influence many people who can be called twitteratti.... but in terms of relationship building.. its far out their in the periphery !!! That's the view of a social media skimmer in gist...
As more and more images from the Kerala legislative assembly get streamed across media.. I as a voter from Kerala have to hang my head in shame.. of course the scenes are laughable and can be confused with pictures from a bunch of unruly kids.... wait I apologize.. children are better....animals may be !!!

Are these leaders that have been elected as our representatives... how can they call themselves our representatives... I do not want to be represented by those who hit..abuse and bite... is that what democracy is all about ? those who can hit most considers themselves the winner.. and those who get hit use it as political mileage and self martyrdom ???

Is this sort of anarchy called democracy ? India is largest democracy or largest anarchy ? How else can lack of conflict management and inability to handle a debate called ? are these the values you want your child to adopt ?And then you gloat over these as victory ?

The minimum we the voters need is an apology... for destroying our trust and forsaking your responsibility.....and ofcourse for spoiling public infrastructure...

Has Indian democracy reached the Tipping Point
? This is a pertinent question that arises this election year. The symptoms are
all there, the record voter turnouts, high decibel pitches, record low stoops
by candidates, an influx of middle class nominations and a lot of youth
participation.

In many ways it looks like social behavior and
political moorings are reaching a Tipping point. Not only the 2014 elections
are being heralded as the largest but also a definite milestone.

The Indian voter seems to now think that growth
is not all that bad, be it participative growth or constructive development.
This is a big change from the aspect of socialism, and has caused drop in the
preference for Left parties. Communalism plank is also not a bestseller this
year. Unfortunately for us, the British used the religious card and our
politicians further broke it down to communities and castes. The unprecedented
win of the AAP in Delhi indicates that this tipping point is on us for sure.
The victory of AAP was that it gave people an alternate choice. Though the AAP
government in Delhi dint live up to expectations, it has urged many people
whatever be their background to come forward and actively participate in
politics.

It is indeed unfortunate that none of our
political parties saw this change coming or prepared themselves for a mandate
which signals this change. They still wander in dynasty ( read monarchy),
communal divisions ( read british raj policy), socialism ( nehruvian utopian
idea) and what not. Many stoop to a new low using hate words and other
mechanisms to get media space like favoring rapists. But the Indian electorate
is fast cruising to a higher platform, desiring empowerment, education and
growth.

Now the big question is, will there be leaders
who can ensure a smooth change over ? Leaders who can collectively group people
together, lend their charisma, welcome debates and participate in discussions
with the electorate are the need of the hour. Neither a famous surname, nor a
single man show can fit the bill.

Lets hope in the next few years a drastic shift
would happen in our political parties reflecting the mood of the people and
ready to herald them to the next milestone for India.

I dont know how many of you have gone through this stage.. where you want to break the mould... get on with life.. know your priorities.. but just cant make it happen..

That's exactly whats happening to me, stuck in a bad job, long commute hours, a rising need to shed some kilos and an urge to take up an interesting hobby.. its all there.. but yet no change !

One of those various things which I would like to pursue is freelance writing for any english newspapers..but before that I thought, first let me atleast get this blog , dusted and ready.. so here is my first entry after a long time.
All great cities be it the new cities in United Arab Emirates, towering buildings of New York or now even Singapore are build by marginalized people from third world countries. Their aspiration in life is limited, yet basic respect is a distant dream for them..

They arrive in hordes, work in the severest of conditions, build great cities and yet live unseen by us..
When they do react, or speak up.. they are swiftly hushed up with instant doling out of freebies and slowly the world goes back to its usual hum...

Can there be equality in real ? Minimum wages that are followed ? Process for wage correction and welfare.. or is too marxist an idea...

Speaking of marxism, the reality in china is no different. Subjugation, encroaching personal freedom and inequality affect a large portion of the urban chinese population.

Therefore there is only crony marixism and crony capitalism..neither has space for equality...

Have you ever wondered which is the fastest mode of communication... and the most trusted for some reason..well its your local grapevine.

Recently, when I was interacting with my daughter's nanny and enquiring for a help for a friend's aquaintance.. she very categorically asked the lady's name or description. This kind of quirked my interest, but I gave in told her the apartment number.

The next day, I get a full report of this aqauaintance whom I have never met, complete with all family details, and a report card. Unfortunately she did not have a good ranking and therefore my nanny refused to be of any service to her !.

This made me wonder, what is my report card rating ? How do these seemingly unstructured group of people work or communicate ? It was a horrible thought, imagine you go about your regular day always with the thought that there would be so many judging eyes around or my home and family will be under the scanner at a tea time chit chat...

Well.. but isn't this the most common and fastest mode of communication, whether the office grapevine or at a housing complex, one of the great indian weddings wherever...

AAP & New generation parties

So finally the Aam Aadmi has finally arrived...

AAP’s fantastic win over the city state of Delhi is telling tale of how much India’s urban young population is
fed up of the politics of caste, religion, power broking and non stop
corruption.. True that Kejriwal and team has limited exposure to the nuances of
political governance.. but the people’s ruling is a fresh mandate.. fresh slate…

This is think is the start of a new revolution in Indian political scenario…the
start of new generation parties.. Post-independence and post emergency, there
has been no other great movement here.. this is true to the Indian mindset of
leaving things as it is.. Janne do !.. Chalne do! And getting on with their
life…

With the AAP’s win, there is a certain belief that it need not be a choice
between the devil and the deep sea always.. and some amount of focus,
dedication can help in being a voice of change.

This could be the start of a host of new generation parties.. who are neither
anti-capitalists, not bound by religion or by regional politics..

Another significant aspect is that there is a large group of young Indians who
have voted for this first time now.. this young generation has very different
needs from the 1940’s to 1970’s generation. They are far more literate, exposed
to the ways of the modern world and yet to fall into the trap of region and
religion. These are the group of people who will vote in the coming general
elections and they I hope will bring about the change that India needs…

Every morning and evening I look forward to watch the birds fly in flocks around and around our apartment building, sometimes swiftly sometimes laid back.. but always in order , smooth and rythymic...want a fantastic way to start or end your day.

I wonder, how are these flocks formed, are they family ? like the great indian joint family ? do they have an amazing social network, may be something like Twitter where the thoughts are rallied instanteously, otherwise how is the pattern so systematic.. who decides to play the lead ? management structures ?

How amazing it is to just fly, enjoy the light breeze, soar up and feel the energy in your wings... No hangup's, pretense, hypocritsim, just enjoy each day like it is your first....

Wow !

From the kangaroo court Khap leaders to the elected kangaroo representatives, all have an opinion on girls. But the real issue is the boys, how do we raise them ? Do we raise them to respect and honor women just like they need to respect all other human beings.

I think that is what the society needs to answer.

There is simply no point in having stringent laws on eve teasing or rape alone. Laws & regulations work only to a certain extent.

The Nirbhaya incident brought in a lot of publicity and many many people were up in arms, holding candles and protesting against violence on women. But such symbolisms are forgotten soon. A cultural change needs to be in place. Schools needs to take up gender sentisation, parents need to have such discussions at home. Then we would not be arguing what drove a 17 year old minor to brutally rape a young girl as what happened in the Nirbhaya case.

Has he grown up seeing girls being abused & therefore he assumes that it is ok to do that ? does he get provoked by young girls being treated equal in schools, heading to work / college etc ? does he think that such girls need to know that they can be overpowered easily ? What drove him to this brutal act. I think that is a question that we citizens / parents need to answer.

Recently there was an argument about how movies and item numbers in movies downgrade women. I'm not so sure of item numbers, but a common theme in movies is

" Boy like girl, girl does not like him. Boy tries to woo her continuosly either through song / dance more or forever irritating her with notes, flowers etc, he lets his friends know of intentions and they also help and very soon she starts liking him ". Now this entire movie story fits perfectly into eve teasing. Is it possible that a young boy who sees this movie starts thinking that it is perfect in this manner to woo a girl ?

Or another story line is " Boy likes girl, girl resents him, Boy tries to molest her as he knows that she does not like his advancements".. Wow.. how many indian movies show a rape scene.. very common of villains to rape women and hero to either save the damsel in distress or extract his revenge and therefore become a hero...

Now how many english movies do we see where such kind of wooing is done, or rape scenes in english movies ? Can we say with a clear conscious that a typical half literate young man will not be influenced by all this in movies ?

Crimes against women will reduce only through a removal of a deep seated malice in our society which is wrapped in illiteracy, paternal structures, and willingness to help others.

Every now and then the question gets popped to the God of Cricket - Retirement ?.. & Sachin's answer has always been a consistent .. I have not thought about it yet.. Well, I cant stop from not comparing it to a normal job or profession. Just like most of us are employed, some in their dream jobs whereas some in not so..and we move on when either the passion weakens or there is a dreamier job on offer.. Similarly cricketing is Sachin's profession.. so why keep pre-empting the question to Sachin.. Do people around us, ask any of us randomly on when we plan to shift jobs...

Ofcourse it is wise to quit while you are doing well rather than being forcefully retired. But then lets leave the brain work to him. He has been playing cricket since the age of 16, literally all his life has been dedicated to his profession so just let him be.

Does it kindle the consciousness of all those people who abuse women ? Here again I have no answer.Women's day has its origin related to a stir by women in NewYork for their rights in the textile industry. What I see these days is that the so called already empowered women, meaning the well heeled educated and working or societal women consider it as a celebration of their gender. Whereas the others, it is just another day in the year.

For me, there is a formidable run up to the Woman's day. I look forward to all those chick flicks which get beamed on TV, lots of advertisements and deals all for the empowered woman of today. Not to mention the repeated programs set up by the HR team to celebrate the diversity and inclusiveness of the fairer gender. It is one of those days when most of the male colleagues come up and wish you a good day and then go back to their desks in oblivion. Then of course the women centric organizations bring in their share of propoganda on policy, rights, health, awareness etcetra etcetra which also die its natural death soon after only to be revived the following year.

Apart from me the other woman at home is my maid 20 year old Poornima, married of at an early age, Xth half pass and doing umpteen chores at numerous homes to meet both ends meet in a bustling expensive city of bangalore. Her day starts at 5 and goes through rapidly cleaning the grime and dirt in couple of apartments here. Apart from hoping for financial empowerment, she does not see any need for anyother emancipation. Does Woman's day mean anything to her ??

Now what do I, a persona of the celebrated gender do.. Well the day starts off as a normal day, all the morning tussle, hussle, traffic, pollution and work. I reach work and there is after all a special warmth in the air which in a few hours heats up in the midst of closing in deadlines, boring longish meetings and fighting over emails. Then a few of us in an upbeat mood of being empowered decide to celebrate further our higher status through shopping or trying out the new restaurant near by. And thus the day ends with lighter pockets and a heavier calories.

In conclusion, Woman's day is one of those days where the so called already empowered woman celebrate their gender, corporates and woman genric brands up their advertisement ante and then of course are the myriad activists who go hoarse stating woman issues.. all in a day.. and then as usual time moves on waiting for the next International Woman's Day..

Happy Woman's Day

To use that weapon the person needs to be in physical contact with the enemy or at an arms distance. The image of a sword swashing soldier on foot or a horse riding straight on to the enemy or returning back to his home in all its glory can be seen only on some soaps on legendary war heros in Television. Gone are the days of a soldier armed with dozens of artillery and backed with fiery camoflagued tanks also.. From a direct battleground warfare, it soon became tanks and air warfare where the soldiers are atleast masked in some comfort and now it has become closed room wars with live satellite telecast into the operation room.

Is it only in Iraq and Afghanistan ? In the old days, wars were fought on geography, or for imperialistic plundering or to spread an idology or religion.. how about it now ? Are battles being fought on the premises of the Rightful and the Rogue ? or like in Osama 's case , targetting one person ? Gadaffi, Sadam are all examples of a country or allied nations against one person..

In this time and era, wars and battles are fought on other levels, on the internet, on social media, closed room meetings, silent drone attacks, the Oil war, financial war and so on and so forth. Soon after the second world war, warfare through sanctions and bans began. Essential commodities like food, oil , medicine etc also came under sanctions by the powerful few on the so called rogue nations. Then came the era of diplomatic , closed room warfare where a few representatives agree to disagree , pose for a few photo op's and decide on what needs to be told to the outside world. Years later, these discussions are telecasted on secret wikicables.

The financial war is another of the kind. The developed markets are on huge budged deficits and being financed by the third world countries, currencies are either propped up or maintained low and the whole aspect of global investment portfolio ensures that the whole financial market is a huge tangle. Any day if China decides to stop funding the US deficit, the next recession would be in row, bringing in unprecedented effect on the millions of american lives.

Another interesting aspect is to look at those who are fighting the present battles - there are nation conglomerates like US led " cleansing war " in Afghanistan, then there are People or public movements like the Arabic uprising in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Baharin, then the diplomatic tussles without much intended progress like the Indian Govt. vs the Pak Govt vs the ISI, ofcourse the highly effective select group wars like Mossad, Hamas, Taliban and so on and not to leave out the Chinese Govt and its stranglehold ( which it can tighten at any point) on the global market.Wow..that's quite a variety..

Are there enough anti war agencies to regulate these battles. After WW I , the League of Nations was set up and considered a failure, then came the United Nations after WW II.. does the UN have any serious role in the present day battles.. I have my doubts on that.. For that matter, can any agency actually regulate these battles ? again not a very feasible possibility.. So what can be the alternate, how to form a code of conduct steeped in the principles of live & let live or transparency.. some questions which are far beyond my overtaxed brain to answer...

The 2011 Indian census has further alleivated this highly prejudiced aspect of the Indian Society. " Missing Girls" in the population is an issue not only in India, but also in other countries like China, West Asian ( Arab nations). This was a problem in Korea earlier , but with the economic development of the region the problem has been sorted.

Both India & China are much touted as the economies of the future with growth rates double of the World GDP growth rate. The question is how much more developed should we be to give respect and protection to the girl babies? Does increase in GDP Growth rate really affect female infanticide ? Here are some facts.

Haryana & Punjab are relatively the richer states in India, but scrores worse in protecting its girl babies..

Kerala, a foreign remittances based state has the best sex ratio

Indian NRI's in USA score low in sex ration and has dipped further as compared to earlier census

Its hard to believe that economic growth would be the single factor. What is more important is education and a shift in a deep psychological attitude towards woman. We see woman work in all fields of life these days. Actually the poorer they are the more they work, whether it is as house help, low level civil work , activities like agriculture, fishing etc and save more money for their family than their male counterparts.

The deep rooted " Dowry " system is another main reason for such vices. Girls are considered as taking away the family heirloom whereas Boys bring money from other families. This is more prevalent in the north. What is worst is that this practice is so much publicized and well known and there is hardly any action against that . The groom's parents consider it their right to demand dowry and the bride's parents consider it their obligation.Guests for the wedding revel in the party and love to hear about the rich presents given.

Hope that soon there would be some young men who can stand upright on their own and support their family without the bride's father 's hard earned money. I cant understand how men with all their giant sized ego actually admit that he needs that money.

Speaking about psychological shift, it is education , freedom of speech and media which can bring about this shift. Look at the myriad serials that are aired post 7.00 PM in all those chanels. It all revolves around sari clad , home bound, oppressed & depressed women. Why cant it show a progressive woman who handles issues related to work place & her home with grace and poise ? Does only teary eyed girls rake in the TRP ratings and moolah ? Is it a psychological vaccum that we have which needs to be filled seeing depressed woman fighting amongst themselves on whimisical issues ?

With the trend of 2 or 1 child per family, the pressure to choose boy babies is even more. There is an increase in girl children left at orphanages. A good measure would be to have orphanages interact with IVF centres, it may atleast increase the adoption rate.

If the sex ration continues in this manner, another social issue which could come up in the next 20 years is frustrted & depressed Men in the 20 to 45 years age group. Some parts of China already report about 20% excess males in their population and there have been reports of men in parts of Haryana not finding brides to marry in their community. Some socialists term this as " Testosterone Glut ". This may affect in more crimes against woman and other habits like wives sharing.
